ARC Fell Championship gets underway...

posted 8 May 2014, 02:40 by Paul Mannion

Tuesday night saw the first of the Short counting races  in the ARC Fell Running Championship take place from the Fox House Inn near Hathersage.  It was a warm evening, and being one of the first evening races of the season, saw 327 starters for the popular circuit of the Burbage Valley, taking in the two main summits of Owler Tor and Higger Tor on the route, back along Burbage Edge and then dropping to the main path below for a long gently downhill run in to the finish.

Ashbourne RC was represented by;

Howard Winbow  (complaining of a pulled Achilles tendon)

Dave Patrick (carrying an inhaler and complaining of a tight chest)

Gabriel Hutchings (with a bandage on his knee and claiming an upset stomach as well)

Dave Thornsby-Smith (..oh, I did the Leicester Triathlon yesterday so I’m a bit tired….)

Alasdair Duncan – the only one not complaining

and as it turns out all the various excuses must have been sandbagging, because everyone had a good run, and we finished fairly closely grouped;

1st           Kristian Jones    Dark Peak            36:21     - won by 4 minutes!

110th      Gabriel Hutchings                            51:47

133rd      Dave Thornsby-Smith                    53:36

139th      Dave Patrick                                       53:51

148th      Howard Winbow                              54:20

164th      Alasdair Duncan                                55:17

327 Starters

Championship table attached.  There is still plenty of time to join in and complete enough qualifying races……..

Next event is Tansley Hill Race (near Matlock) on Tuesday 05/06, hope to see some more of you there….?
